Floating Solar in Europe

Floating solar projects continue to gain momentum across Europe, both in the north as well as the south, driven primarily by increasing land availability concerns. The continent’s expanding offshore wind market is also giving a significant boost to floating solar projects owing to synergies in terms of grid connectivity, permitting and development of other infrastructure. Meanwhile, floating solar projects are being deployed on reservoirs of existing thermal and hydro power plants as well.

With attractive market dynamics and a maturing technology, the scale and size of onshore and offshore floating solar projects is increasing across Europe. This is being supported by policy and regulatory interventions in various countries, with auctions also being conducted in this space.

REGlobal is organising its second edition of Floating Solar in Europe on February 13-14, 2025 in Amsterdam. The mission of the conference is to highlight potential, growth trends, policy interventions, developers’ plans, permitting and grid concerns, technology trends, execution and O&M solutions, financing landscape and outlook for the onshore and offshore floating solar sector in Europe. The conference will bring together policy makers, regulators, solar power developers, utilities, technology providers, manufacturers, grid operators, water authorities, permitting bodies and industry experts to present their perspectives and to discuss the opportunities, challenges and solutions in advancing the continent’s floating solar market.
