Senior Power Systems Engineer

Your role will include working with a range of clients/stakeholders including major utilities and large global demand customers in a rapidly changing energy sector.
The role is a permanent position within our team for an ambitious and enthusiastic Electrical
Engineer. Reporting to the Power team Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for a range of tasks including;
Primary plant layout for HV substations;
Cable collection system design for renewable energy developments;
Equipment specifications for HV Plant and ancillary equipment;
Providing engineering design input to major electrical power infrastructural development projects through various lifecycle stages from feasibility/front end engineering stages to detailed design/site construction monitoring and commissioning;
Coordination with client project teams and internal team disciplines within Mott MacDonald including civil, structural, environmental, survey/geotechnical, transport, protection and control and CAD/BIM team;
Delivering projects in new technologies e.g. energy storage, HVDC systems, smart grid solutions, waste to energy etc;
Provide professional services to clients in the UK and overseas.

Candidate Specification
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and level of experience:
Experience working in the power transmission and distribution industry;
Qualified to degree level and will ideally be, or working towards Chartered Engineer status;
Experience relating to design, delivery and supervision of HV substation solutions (110kV to 400kV);
Experience in development of specifications for HV AIS/GIS substations and associated primary/secondary equipment;
Experience of all stages of project lifecycles;
Experience in applying regulatory and client specific health and safety requirements to HV plant system designs;
Experience in the preparation of technical reports in English;

Energy Modelling Consultant

Project roles and responsibilities:
Power System Analysis – load flow, short circuit, dynamic & transient stability, harmonics, protection, EMT switching studies and insulation coordination studies
Power System modelling – conversant in power system simulation packages such as PSS/E, DigSilent Power Factory and PSCAD/EMTDC
Proficient in governor and AVR modelling (including user-defined models)
Proficient in battery, wind and solar PV modelling
Proficiency in SVC, SCO and STATCOM modelling
Good understanding of inverter models
Report preparation and presentation to clients
Tender preparation based on RFPs and RFIs
Interfacing and coordinating with other professionals, clients, contractors and disciplines as appropriate
Good understanding of grid codes
Mentoring of junior staff.

Working with fellow professionals on other projects and interfacing and coordinating with them appropriately interfacing with clients, suppliers and contractors.

The role involves working potentially on multiple projects/proposals, both within teams and on a lone basis. There will be a requirement to travel for business on an occasional basis, typically for short periods.
The role is based in our Belgrade, Sofia, Madrid or Genova Office.

Candidate Specification
The successful candidate will have:
Master`s degree or higher in a quantitative field as energy/electrical engineering
Wide-ranging experience in regulated and deregulated energy markets, and with IFIs and donor agencies
Knowledge of Energy systems (production, transmission, distribution)
Understanding/ appreciation of Operation Research/Optimization in the context of Energy Market modelling.
Knowledge of Energy Market Modelling software, such as PLEXOS
Ability to grow, guide and provide leadership to a system studies team
Commercial awareness and ability to develop business through existing and new workstreams
Ability to produce clear and logical written communication
Ability to interface with clients, suppliers and contractors, as well as undertake training
Willingness to travel internationally from time to time
Must fluently speak, read, and write in English
Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate complex information and deliver verbal and written messages effectively
Strong research capabilities, using a variety of primary and secondary sources
Strong organizational, teamwork, and technical skills
Proven problem-solving skill and ability to process large amounts of information and present the findings
Proven track of leadership in a business environment or other extracurricular activities.
