Senior Power Systems Engineer

Position Location
Belgrade, Altrincham, Glasgow, Brighton, Newcastle

You will be involved in projects which will include the following roles:
Power System Analysis – load flow, short circuit, dynamic & transient stability, harmonic analysis, protection, arc flash evaluation
Power System modelling - conversant with IPSA, ETAP, DigSilent and PTW; PSS/E v3x & higher and PSCAD knowledge will be useful but not critical
Visiting projects sites and power plants to collect data, sometimes via measurements
Analysing and interpreting simulation and test data using industry standard tools
Report preparation and presentation to clients
Having an appreciation of the roles of fellow professionals on other projects and interfacing and coordinating with them appropriately
Interfacing with clients, suppliers and contractors
Maintaining a comprehensive knowledge and appreciation of technical engineering codes and practices and taking a `hands on` role in technical matters both at project level

Candidate Specification
About You
Electrical engineering degree (minimum BSc/BEng; MSc/MEng or PhD in power systems will be an advantage).
Proficiency in IPSA, ETAP, DigSilent, PTW and other power simulation software
Team player and willingness to follow instructions
Commercial awareness and ability to develop business through existing and new workstreams
High level of IT literacy and numeracy skills
Ability to be adaptable and able to work both independently and as part of a team
Ability to manage small project teams delivering projects within time and budget
Ability to produce clear and logical written communication
Have a systematic logical approach to problem solving
Pay strong attention to detail and demonstrate accurate work
Flexible approach to work, and ability to prioritise and manage time effectively to meet deadlines and client needs
Highly motivated to learn on the job, interface with clients, as well as undertake training
Willingness to travel internationally from time to time

Job Description
Our Energy unit are currently recruiting a Senior Electrical Engineer to join us. You`ll provide technical and professional expertise as part of an enthusiastic project Electrical Engineering team. As part of this role, you`d be expected to:
Undertake and manage the day to day operations in respect of the following key areas
Electrical Engineering with experience in the Gas/Petrochemical Industry
Producing Engineering reports, drawings and calculations
Embrace Mott MacDonald`s working culture
Support project planning
Liaising with clients, understanding and implementing project requirements
Attend project design meetings and site visits
Coordinate the delivery of the project tasks and deliverables within tight deadlines and multidisciplinary environment.
Perform thorough and conscientious checking of own and others work.
Operate in accordance with the corporate health and safety, environment and quality standards.
Undertake own continuing professional development
Take an active role in the recruitment of new staff in order to develop the local team
Identify business development opportunities
Potentially travel in the or abroad to offices and/or sites.

Candidate Specification
The ideal candidate would have the following skills and qualifications:
An Electrical Engineering honours degree
Chartered Membership of a professional institution.
Knowledge and understanding of and international design codes, standards and specifications, in particular BS 7671
Demonstrable experience in the Gas/Petrochemical Industry with knowledge of Hazardous Area Protection Concepts and Industrial design and protection of LV Systems. Some HV design experience would be beneficial but not essential.
Fluent written and verbal English.
Competent with MS Office suite programs.
Ability to use Amtech electrical design software (desirable not essential)
Ability to work on own initiative on technical matters and manage their own time and that of others
Have the willingness to learn and develop
