Principal Electrical Engineer

Mott MacDonald has an exciting opportunity for Electrical Engineers to join at various levels (Electrical/Senior Electrical /Principal Electrical) in our expanding Power Transmission and Distribution team, this role will be based in Belgrade, Serbia. The successful candidate will be motivated to work on a range of diverse industry leading projects developing innovative solutions for power transmission grid systems and for client transmission and distribution installations ensuring security of electricity supply, developing the integration of renewable energy sources and bringing large power infrastructural plans from concept to delivery stage.

Your role will include working with a range of clients/stakeholders including major utilities and large global demand customers in a rapidly changing energy sector.

The role is a permanent position within our team for an ambitious and enthusiastic Electrical Engineer. Reporting to the Power team Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for a range of tasks including:
Primary plant layout for HV substations
Equipment specifications for HV Plant and ancillary equipment
Providing engineering design input to major electrical power infrastructural development projects through various lifecycle stages from feasibility/front end engineering stages to detailed design/site construction monitoring and commissioning
Coordination with client project teams and internal team disciplines within Mott MacDonald including civil, structural, environmental, survey/geotechnical, transport, protection and control and CAD/BIM team
Delivering projects in new technologies e.g. energy storage, HVDC systems, smart grid solutions, waste to energy etc
Provide professional services to clients in the UK and overseas

Candidate Specification :
Qualified to degree level and will ideally be, or working towards Chartered Engineer status
Experience working in the power transmission and distribution industry
Experience relating to design, delivery and supervision of HV substation solutions (110kV to 400kV)
Proven capability in developing specifications for HV AIS/GIS substations and associated primary/secondary equipment
Experience of all stages of project lifecycles
Proficiency in applying regulatory and client specific health and safety requirements to HV plant system designs
Ability to prepare clear and concise technical reports in English

Preferred, but not required:
Experience in design of Overhead Line Systems for transmission networks
Experience in design of HV cable systems (minimum 110kV)
Insigt into site construction and/or testing/commissioning for HV plant systems
Experience in earthing software design (CDEGs) and system studies/protection co-ordination software (ETAP)
Understanding of control and protection systems design
Masters Degree

Key Responsibilities and duties include:
HVAC/HVDC Cable System Design: Dive into all aspects of transmission cable system design, from conceptualization to implementation for Onshore and Offshore projects
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of HV cables into substations, converter stations, and grid networks
Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost analyses for transmission cable system projects
Front End Engineering Design (FEED): Be the visionary. Deliver innovative solutions for cable systems integration into major infrastructural development projects
Consenting Stage Cable System design. Leading the interface with our civil and environmental teams to plan the delivery of transmission cable systems in line with consenting requirements
Tender Stage Design/Detail Design for Transmission cable systems, developing concept stage design through to construction detail level
Troubleshoot and resolve transmission cable-related issues during installation and operation/maintenance phases
Stay abreast of technological advancements in HV cable materials, insulation, and transmission technologies

Candidate Specification
Essential:
Degree in Electrical Engineering
Experienced transmission cable systems engineer
Strong analytical skills and able to solve complex engineering problems relating to transmission power cable systems
A willingness to engage with new challenges as well as an ability to work confidently on tasks for which you have prior experience
Ability to demonstrate good written communication skills including report writing
Excellent communication and people skills.

Desirable:
Masters in Electrical Engineering
Experience in design of both onshore and offshore transmission cable systems
Experience in design of HV cable transmission systems for UK and Ireland utilities
Experience in design of HVAC and HVDC transmission cable systems

Electrical Engineer

Job description:
The Secondary Design Interface Engineer will play a crucial role in the design and implementation of secondary systems within HV electrical substations. This position involves coordinating with various stakeholders, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and optimizing the design process to enhance system reliability and performance.

Typical activities include:
Design Coordination: Collaborate with primary design engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive secondary system designs.
Technical Specifications: Prepare and review technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for substation secondary systems, including protection, control, and communication systems.
Drawings Preparation: Prepare interface circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, block diagrams, and room layouts.
Calculations: Calculate battery sizes, voltage drop and cable sizing.
HV Equipment Familiarity: HV plant equipment at 132kV, 275kV, and 400kV for AIS & GIS substations.
SCADA Systems: Knowledge of SCADA systems and I/O interface.
Compliance and Standards: Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry and client standards, regulations, and company policies mainly in UK.
Project Management: Manage design scope secondary design, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget constraints.
Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to address potential design and implementation challenges.
Innovation and Improvement: Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in design processes and technologies.
Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
Site Visits: Willingness to travel for site visits and site surveys, primarily within the

Working as part of a Team and reporting to the Project Principal or Principal Engineer, we are ideally looking for candidates who are Chartered, along with:
Education: Bachelor`s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Experience: good level of experience in secondary system design within the HV power industry.
Technical Skills: Very good knowledge of protection and control systems, and familiarity with industry standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE). NGTS would be an advantage.
Project Management: Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on practical and innovative solutions.
Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
