12th National Grid Collapse in Nigeria in 2024 Dec 12, 2024 - Nigeria`s national power grid collapsed again on Wednesday, marking the 12th failure in 2024 and causing a nationwide blackout. According to the Nigerian System Operator, the grid recorded zero megawatts at 2pm. Both the Abuja and Jos Electricity Distribution Companies confirmed the widespread outage. This follows several other collapses throughout the year, leading to frequent blackouts. Dr Idowu Oyebanjo, Managing Director of Idfon Power Engineering Consultants, joins us live to discuss the technical causes behind these grid failures and the measures needed to ensure a more reliable electricity supply for the country.
