Most of us ignore them until the supply chain snaps. China`s rare earth export controls did exactly that. Now there`s a new iron nitride magnet, made from just iron and nitrogen, two of the most abundant elements on Earth, and Niron Magnetics has broken ground on a factory to build it at scale. A second rare earth free magnet gets more stubborn as it heats up. So are these magnets ready to replace neodymium magnets? Or is this just proof of how hard rare earths are to replace?
