FEB 21, 2023 - webinar Understanding Grid-forming Inverter Specifications Understanding Grid-forming Inverter Specifications February 21 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST G-PST/ESIG Webinar Series - Free Featured Speaker: Ben Kroposki, Director – Power Systems Engineering Center, National Renewable Energy Laboratory About the Webinar: Inverter-based resources (IBR) such as photovoltaics, wind, and battery energy storage systems are increasingly being deployed to meet clean energy targets around the world. These systems have traditionally been designed as grid following where they need to have a voltage waveform provided by the system to synchronize to. As synchronous generators from traditional fossil-fuel plants are removed from the grid, the power system will be increasingly reliant on IBRs to maintain stable and reliable operations. Grid-forming (GFM) IBR will be a key part of maintaining proper grid operations in grid with high levels of IBR. This presentation will discuss the development of specifications and requirements for GFM IBR that have been developed by the UNIFI Consortium and how when properly deployed, these systems will ensure stable grid operations. About the Speaker: Dr. Ben Kroposki is the Director of the Power Systems Engineering Center at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) where he leads NREL’s strategic research in the design, planning and operations of electrical power systems. He has over 30 years of experience in the design, testing, and integration of renewable and distributed power systems and has more than 150 publications in these areas with over 10,000 citations. ![]() |
