Principal Power System Engineer, Principal Electrical Engineer -Substations, Senior Overhead Line Engineer 30.06.2025 - Mott MacDonald Beograd Mott MacDonald Beograd Principal Power System Engineer You will be involved in projects which will include the following roles: Power System Analysis – load flow, short circuit, dynamic & transient stability, harmonic analysis, protection, arc flash evaluation, electromagnetic transient analysis Power System modelling - conversant with IPSA, ETAP, DigSilent, PTW, PSS/E v3x & higher and PSCAD Visiting projects sites and power plants to collect data, sometimes via measurements Analysing and interpreting simulation and test data using industry standard tools Report preparation and presentation to clients Having an appreciation of the roles of fellow professionals on other projects and interfacing and coordinating with them appropriately Interfacing with clients, suppliers and contractors Maintaining a comprehensive knowledge and appreciation of technical engineering codes and practices and taking a hands on role in technical matters both at project level Candidate Specification Electrical engineering degree (minimum BSc/BEng; MSc/MEng or PhD in power systems will be an advantage). Proficiency in PSCAD, ETAP, DigSilent, PTW and other power simulation software Team player and willingness to follow instruction Commercial awareness and ability to develop business through existing and new workstreams High level of IT literacy and numeracy skills Ability to be adaptable and able to work both independently and as part of a team Ability to manage small project teams delivering projects within time and budget Ability to produce clear and logical written communication Have a systematic logical approach to problem solving  Principal Electrical Engineer -Substations The role is a permanent position within our team for an ambitious and enthusiastic Electrical Engineer. Reporting to the Power team Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for a range of tasks including; Primary plant layout for HV substations Equipment specifications for HV Plant and ancillary equipment Providing engineering design input to major electrical power infrastructural development projects through various lifecycle stages from feasibility/front end engineering stages to detailed design/site construction monitoring and commissioning Coordination with client project teams and internal team disciplines within Mott MacDonald including civil, structural, environmental, survey/geotechnical, transport, protection and control and CAD/BIM team Delivering projects in new technologies e.g. energy storage, HVDC systems, smart grid solutions, waste to energy etc Provide professional services to clients in the UK and overseas Candidate Specification Qualified to degree level and will ideally be, or working towards Chartered Engineer status; Experience working in the power transmission and distribution industry; Experience relating to design, delivery and supervision of HV substation solutions (110kV to 400kV); Experience in development of specifications for HV AIS/GIS substations and associated primary/secondary equipment; Experience of all stages of project lifecycles; Experience in applying regulatory and client specific health and safety requirements to HV plant system designs; Experience in the preparation of technical reports in English; Preferred, But Not Required Experience in design of Overhead Line Systems for transmission networks: Experience in design of HV cable systems (minimum 110kV); Experience in site construction and/or testing/commissioning for HV plant systems; Experience in earthing software design (CDEGs) and system studies/protection co-ordination software (ETAP); Experience in control and protection systems design. Masters Degree Senior Overhead Line Engineer The Transmission & Distribution division is recruiting a Senior Overhead Line Engineer to be part of an integral team delivering large projects across the world. We are looking for a candidate who will provide specialist engineering advice and input across a variety of projects. Perform, review, and approve High Voltage OHL designs complying with relevant international standards; Proficient in writing and reviewing reports; Ensure designs approved for delivery comply with relevant legislation, standards, policies, and procedures; Proficient in leading the preparation, coordination, and review of design drawings; Update or create design standards and related documentation to ensure continued compliance with standards and industry best practices; Carry out studies in specialist areas such as line and foundation design, tower spotting, sag-tension, plan and profile, conductor selection, structural design of lattice towers, structural design of steel poles, and wood pole design; Prepare, review, and manage specifications, schedules, BOQs, and other design documentation; Provide information as required to identify the best approach for the successful completion of the project in complex multi-disciplinary issues involving other groups; Investigate and implement innovative design solutions to meet business and project needs; Provide competitive design solutions to support the achievement of MM’s client objectives; Be proficient in the use of engineering software to prepare transmission and distribution lines designs including PLS CADD, PLS Tower, PLS Pole; Deliver engineering projects in accordance with client requirements and in line with company and industry best practices; Management of construction activities by contractor, lead project and design review meetings; Provide technical input into proposals.
