FEB 23, 2023 - webinar Market Design for Future Systems Market Design for Future Systems With a High Share of Renewable Energy February 23 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST Webinar: Free Featured Speaker: Benjamin Hobbs, Theodore and Kay Schad Professor of Environmental Management, Johns Hopkins University About the Webinar: Today’s power market designs were fashioned primarily for systems with dispatchable, non-storable generation– are those designs “fit for purpose” for tomorrow’s systems dominated by wind, solar, and battery resources? Although many of the fundamental principles will still apply in the future, there are several reforms that will be critical if we want to get the full economic and emissions reduction benefits of renewables, while keeping the lights on. These include addressing inconsistencies between retail and grid market incentives, and creating level playing fields for flexibility services and contributions to reliability, and expanding the time horizons and geography of spot markets. About the Speaker: Ben Hobbs is the Theodore and Kay Schad Professor of Environmental Management at JHU, and a member of the ROSEI leadership council and JHU sustainability leadership council. He is also Chair of the California Independent System Operator’s Market Surveillance Committee, on which he has served since 2002. |
